Job Description
We are seeking an Expert Level Heavy Recovery Specialist to join our elite team in San Antonio, TX. This is a critical role for a highly skilled professional capable of handling the most complex and challenging heavy vehicle recovery operations. The successful candidate will possess extensive experience, a deep understanding of heavy-duty mechanics, advanced recovery techniques, and an unwavering commitment to safety. You will be responsible for leading recovery efforts, operating state-of-the-art equipment, and providing mentorship to less experienced team members, all while upholding Rush Truck Centers’ standard of excellence and rapid response.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and execute complex heavy vehicle recovery operations, including rollovers, submerged vehicles, and difficult terrain recoveries.
- Operate and maintain a diverse fleet of heavy-duty recovery vehicles, including rotators, heavy wreckers, and specialized support equipment.
- Assess incident scenes, develop safe and effective recovery plans, and direct supporting personnel.
- Ensure strict adherence to all safety protocols, industry best practices, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform on-site minor repairs or diagnostics to facilitate recovery, if necessary.
- Provide expert guidance and mentorship to junior recovery specialists and technicians.
- Document all recovery operations thoroughly, including incident reports, photos, and time logs.
- Maintain professional communication with customers, law enforcement, and other emergency services personnel.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with the latest recovery techniques and equipment.
- Be available for on-call duties and emergency responses outside of standard business hours.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 8 years of proven experience as a Heavy Recovery Specialist.
- Expertise in operating Class 8 heavy-duty wreckers and rotators.
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Advanced knowledge of heavy vehicle mechanics and diagnostics.
- Demonstrated ability to assess complex recovery situations and formulate effective solutions.
- Strong understanding of rigging, winching, and air cushion recovery techniques.
- Exceptional problem-solving skills and ability to perform under pressure.
- Commitment to workplace safety and adherence to all OSHA regulations.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Physical ability to perform demanding recovery tasks in various weather conditions.
Preferred Qualifications
- WreckMaster Level 6/7 certification or equivalent TRAA certification.
- Experience with specialized cargo recovery and hazardous materials handling.
- Mechanical certifications (e.g., ASE Heavy-Duty Truck).
- First Aid and CPR certification.
- Leadership or supervisory experience in a recovery or towing environment.
- Proficiency with recovery software and GPS systems.
