Job Description

Join the YMCA team as a High School Camp Counselor Trainee and kickstart your career in youth development! Key Responsibilities

  • Assist lead counselors in planning and executing daily camp activities, games, and crafts.
  • Actively participate in and supervise campers during outdoor recreational activities such as swimming, sports, and nature walks.
  • Help ensure the safety and well-being of all campers, following established YMCA safety protocols.
  • Serve as a positive role model for campers, demonstrating enthusiasm, respect, and responsibility.
  • Encourage camper participation and foster a welcoming, inclusive environment for all.
  • Support the maintenance of a clean and organized camp environment.
  • Communicate effectively with lead counselors regarding camper behavior, needs, and concerns.
  • Attend all required training sessions and staff meetings.

Required Skills

  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from high school.
  • Genuine interest in working with children and youth.
  • Enthusiastic, energetic, and positive attitude.
  • Ability to follow instructions and work effectively as part of a team.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Reliable and punctual.
  • Comfortable working in an outdoor environment in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience volunteering or working with children (e.g., babysitting, youth groups, school clubs).
  • Basic knowledge of first aid or willingness to be trained.
  • Certifications in lifeguarding or CPR (a plus, but not required for this trainee role).
