Job Description

Key Responsibilities

  • Transporting patients safely and comfortably between wards, departments, and other areas via beds, trolleys, or wheelchairs.
  • Moving medical equipment, records, samples, and specimens throughout the hospital.
  • Delivering and collecting mail, linen, waste, and other essential supplies.
  • Assisting with the setup and dismantling of equipment for procedures or events.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and organised environment within transport routes and storage areas.
  • Responding promptly to requests from medical and nursing staff.
  • Adhering to all health and safety regulations, infection control policies, and patient confidentiality guidelines.
  • Providing compassionate and reassuring communication to patients and their families.

Required Skills

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good level of physical fitness, able to lift, push, and pull various items and stand/walk for extended periods.
  • Reliable and punctual with a strong work ethic.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work autonomously when required.
  • A compassionate and empathetic approach to patient interaction.
  • Understanding of the importance of hygiene and infection control.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a healthcare or customer service environment.
  • Basic IT literacy for using communication devices or internal systems.
  • Knowledge of manual handling techniques.
  • First Aid certification.
  • A valid UK driving license (for roles involving off-site transfers, if applicable).
