Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Legislative Tracking Clerk with a strong Political Science focus to join our dynamic team. This entry-level to mid-level position is crucial for monitoring, analyzing, and reporting on legislative activities relevant to our clients. The ideal candidate will possess a foundational understanding of legislative processes, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to synthesize complex information efficiently. This role offers a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience in government relations and contribute significantly to our advocacy efforts.
Key Responsibilities
- Monitor legislative calendars, committee hearings, and bill statuses at the state and local levels.
- Track specific bills and amendments through the legislative process, from introduction to final disposition.
- Prepare concise summaries and alerts on relevant legislative developments for internal teams and clients.
- Maintain and update legislative tracking databases with accuracy and timeliness.
- Conduct research on policy issues, legislative history, and elected officials.
- Assist with the preparation of legislative reports, presentations, and correspondence.
- Attend legislative meetings or hearings as required and provide detailed notes.
- Collaborate with government affairs professionals to ensure comprehensive and strategic tracking.
- Respond to internal and external inquiries regarding legislative status and details.
Required Skills
- Bachelor’s degree in Political Science, Public Administration, or a related field
- Strong understanding of legislative processes and governmental structures
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Exceptional attention to detail and organizational abilities
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment
- Demonstrated research and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous internship or work experience in a legislative office, political campaign, or government relations firm
- Familiarity with legislative tracking software or databases
