Job Description
Join the YMCA of Greater Omaha as a Part-time Swim Assistant for our weekend poolside operations. This entry-level role is perfect for individuals who are passionate about water safety, enjoy working with people of all ages, and are looking for meaningful weekend work. As a Swim Assistant, you will play a crucial role in maintaining a safe, clean, and welcoming pool environment, assisting our certified lifeguards and swim instructors, and ensuring our members have a positive experience. This is an on-site position at one of our vibrant community pools.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist certified lifeguards in maintaining constant surveillance of the pool area to prevent accidents.
- Monitor pool deck and facility cleanliness, ensuring a safe and hygienic environment for all users.
- Help set up and take down equipment for swim lessons and recreational swimming activities.
- Provide excellent customer service, answering member questions and offering assistance as needed.
- Support swim instructors during lessons, including helping with class organization and participant supervision.
- Enforce pool rules and regulations consistently and courteously.
- Respond to emergencies as directed by certified lifeguards and facility staff.
- Complete routine tasks such as checking water chemistry, organizing pool toys, and tidying changing rooms.
Required Skills
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.
- Reliability and punctuality, especially for weekend shifts.
- A positive attitude and a passion for aquatic activities and community service.
- Ability to follow instructions and safety protocols diligently.
- Must be at least 16 years of age.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a recreational or customer service role.
- Basic knowledge of water safety and first aid.
- Current CPR and First Aid certification (training available upon hire).
- Lifeguard certification (not required, but a strong plus).
