Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Remote Building Permit Processor to join our planning and development team. This is a crucial role within our local government services, ensuring that all building permit applications are processed accurately and efficiently, adhering to local regulations and national standards. You will play a vital part in facilitating safe and compliant construction projects across our city. This position is 100% remote, offering flexibility while maintaining high standards of service delivery.
Key Responsibilities
- Receive, review, and process building permit applications, ensuring all required documentation is submitted and complete.
- Verify compliance with local building codes, zoning ordinances, and other relevant regulations.
- Communicate with applicants, contractors, and the public regarding permit status, requirements, and application procedures.
- Coordinate with various internal departments (e.g., planning, engineering, fire) to facilitate permit reviews and approvals.
- Maintain accurate records of all applications, correspondence, and permit issuances in the database.
- Prepare reports on permit activity and departmental performance as required.
- Identify and resolve discrepancies or issues in permit applications, escalating complex cases to senior staff when necessary.
- Provide excellent customer service and guidance to applicants throughout the permit process.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in administrative support or data processing roles, preferably within a regulatory or local government setting.
- Strong understanding of building permit processes and relevant regulations (or a demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply complex rules).
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and document review.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, for interacting with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficiency in using office software (Microsoft Office Suite) and experience with permit tracking systems or databases.
- Ability to work independently and manage a high volume of work in a remote environment.
- Strong organizational and time management skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- A qualification in urban planning, public administration, construction management, or a related field.
- Previous experience specifically processing building permits or working within a local government planning department.
- Familiarity with UK building regulations and planning policies.
- Experience with customer relationship management (CRM) systems.
