Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Principal Medicinal Chemist to join our dynamic R&D team in Boulder, CO. The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in leading and advancing small molecule drug discovery projects from target validation through lead optimization and candidate selection. This position requires exceptional scientific acumen, a track record of innovation, and the ability to collaborate effectively across multi-disciplinary teams in a fast-paced, multi-national biotech environment. You will be instrumental in designing and synthesizing novel chemical entities, elucidating structure-activity relationships, and contributing to the overall strategic direction of our therapeutic programs.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the design and synthesis of small molecules with optimized potency, selectivity, and ADME properties.
- Drive medicinal chemistry efforts for assigned drug discovery programs, from hit-to-lead to clinical candidate nomination.
- Utilize advanced synthetic methodologies and purification techniques.
- Analyze complex SAR data and guide the team in hypothesis generation and testing.
- Collaborate closely with colleagues in biology, pharmacology, ADME, and structural biology.
- Present research findings effectively in internal and external scientific forums.
- Mentor junior chemists and contribute to a culture of scientific excellence and innovation.
Required Skills
- Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry or Medicinal Chemistry.
- Minimum of 8 years of experience in medicinal chemistry in the pharmaceutical or biotechnology industry.
- Demonstrated expertise in synthetic organic chemistry, reaction mechanism, and retrosynthetic analysis.
- Proven track record of significant contributions to drug discovery programs resulting in clinical candidates.
- Proficiency in modern spectroscopic and analytical techniques (NMR, MS, HPLC).
- Strong understanding of ADME principles and their application in lead optimization.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Postdoctoral experience.
- Experience with structure-based drug design (SBDD) and computational chemistry tools.
- Leadership experience within project teams.
- Expertise in a specific therapeutic area (e.g., oncology, immunology, neuroscience).
- Experience working in a multi-national R&D environment.
