Job Description
As a Quality Assurance Chemist in our Food & Beverage division, you will play a critical role in ensuring the highest standards of product safety, quality, and regulatory compliance. You will be responsible for conducting rigorous chemical and physical analyses of raw materials, in-process samples, and finished products. Your expertise will directly contribute to maintaining our brand reputation and consumer trust by identifying and resolving potential quality issues proactively. This position requires a meticulous approach, strong analytical skills, and a commitment to continuous improvement within a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform chemical and physical analyses on raw materials, in-process, and finished food and beverage products using various laboratory techniques and instrumentation (e.g., pH meters, refractometers, titrators, spectrophotometers, HPLC, GC).
- Ensure all testing procedures adhere to established company specifications, regulatory guidelines (FDA, USDA), and industry best practices.
- Document and interpret test results accurately, maintaining detailed records and laboratory notebooks.
- Investigate out-of-specification (OOS) results, identify root causes, and recommend corrective actions.
- Calibrate and maintain laboratory equipment, ensuring proper functioning and data integrity.
- Assist in the development and validation of new analytical methods and quality control procedures.
- Collaborate with production, R&D, and other departments to address quality concerns and support continuous improvement initiatives.
- Participate in internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and technical support.
- Train and mentor junior lab personnel on analytical techniques and safety protocols.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe working environment, adhering to all safety regulations.
Required Skills
- Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Minimum of 3 years of experience in a Quality Assurance or Analytical Chemistry role within the Food & Beverage manufacturing industry.
- Proficiency in operating and troubleshooting laboratory analytical instrumentation (e.g., HPLC, GC, UV-Vis, FTIR, AA).
- Strong understanding of GMP, HACCP, SQF, ISO 22000, and other relevant food safety and quality management systems.
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and critical thinking skills.
- Ability to interpret complex data and generate comprehensive reports.
- Proficient in LIMS (Laboratory Information Management Systems) and Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree in Chemistry or Food Science.
- Certifications in HACCP, PCQI (Preventive Controls Qualified Individual), or internal auditing.
- Experience with statistical process control (SPC) and continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Lean, Six Sigma).
- Familiarity with sensory evaluation techniques.
- Prior experience working with beverage or snack food products.
