Job Description

Hendrick Health System is seeking a dedicated and compassionate Respiratory Therapist to join our dynamic team in the Sayles Blvd Historic District of Abilene, TX. Key Responsibilities

  • Administer a variety of respiratory treatments and procedures, including nebulizer treatments, oxygen therapy, and bronchial hygiene.
  • Assess patient conditions, interpret diagnostic data, and recommend appropriate respiratory interventions in collaboration with physicians.
  • Monitor, set up, and manage mechanical ventilators, BiPAP/CPAP machines, and artificial airways for critically ill patients.
  • Provide clear and empathetic education to patients and their families regarding respiratory conditions, treatment plans, and the proper use of respiratory equipment.
  • Actively collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare team members to develop and implement comprehensive patient care plans.
  • Respond promptly and effectively to emergency codes, providing life-saving respiratory support during critical situations.
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and thorough patient records and documentation in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.

Required Skills

  • Current RRT (Registered Respiratory Therapist) credential from the NBRC.
  • Active State licensure as a Respiratory Therapist in Texas, or eligibility and commitment to obtain it upon employment.
  • Current BLS (Basic Life Support) and ACLS (Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support) certifications.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in operating and troubleshooting a wide range of respiratory care equipment and techniques.
  • Strong critical thinking, analytical, and problem-solving skills to manage complex patient scenarios.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and teamwork abilities to effectively interact with patients, families, and colleagues.
  • Ability to work efficiently and calmly in high-pressure environments.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Respiratory Therapy or a related field.
  • NRP (Neonatal Resuscitation Program) certification.
  • Previous experience with electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • At least 2 years of experience as a Respiratory Therapist in an acute care setting, such as a Level II Trauma Center.
