Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and detail-oriented Inpatient Pharmacy Technician to join our comprehensive pharmacy team at Boulder Community Health. This vital on-site role supports our licensed pharmacists in providing exceptional patient care through accurate medication preparation, distribution, and meticulous inventory management within our dynamic hospital setting. Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and dispense medications accurately for inpatient use under the direct supervision of a licensed pharmacist.
- Assist with the compounding of sterile and non-sterile products according to established USP 797/800 protocols and hospital policies.
- Maintain accurate inventory control, including ordering, receiving, stocking, and rotating medications to ensure proper availability and minimize waste.
- Perform medication reconciliations and assist with obtaining accurate patient medication histories upon admission or transfer.
- Ensure proper storage and security of all medications, including controlled substances, adhering to all federal and state regulations.
- Utilize pharmacy automation and technology, such as automated dispensing cabinets (ADCs) and electronic health records (EHRs), to enhance efficiency and patient safety.
- Assist with unit dose packaging, medication cart fills, and preparing patient-specific medication orders.
- Respond promptly and professionally to pharmacy-related inquiries from nurses, physicians, and other healthcare professionals.
- Adhere strictly to all federal, state, and local regulations, as well as hospital policies and procedures, including HIPAA guidelines.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities to optimize pharmacy services and patient outcomes.
Required Skills
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification from PTCB or NHA
- Active Colorado Pharmacy Technician registration
- Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Pharmacy Technician in an inpatient or hospital setting
- Proficiency in pharmacy software systems and automated dispensing machines (e.g., Pyxis, Omnicell)
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy, and problem-solving abilities
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work effectively and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment
- Basic computer proficiency and ability to learn new technologies
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in a related field
- Prior experience with IV compounding (sterile products)
- Comprehensive knowledge of USP 797 and 800 guidelines
- Experience with Epic EMR system or similar electronic health records platforms
