Job Description

We are seeking a diligent and reliable Hospital Catering Porter to join our vital Food Services team in Guildford. In this role, you will be instrumental in the logistics of food delivery, ensuring that patients, staff, and visitors receive their meals efficiently and to the highest standards of hygiene. This position is crucial for maintaining the smooth operation of our catering department and directly impacts the daily experience of everyone within the hospital. Key Responsibilities

  • Transport food trolleys, meal trays, and catering supplies safely and efficiently throughout the hospital premises.
  • Deliver patient meals to wards and ensure correct distribution according to dietary requirements and patient requests.
  • Collect used trays, cutlery, and dishes from wards and return them to the catering department for washing.
  • Assist with the loading and unloading of catering supplies and deliveries.
  • Maintain high standards of cleanliness and hygiene in all catering areas and equipment.
  • Operate and clean catering equipment as required, following health and safety guidelines.
  • Adhere to strict food safety and infection control policies and procedures.
  • Communicate effectively with catering staff, ward staff, and patients to ensure smooth service delivery.
  • Support general kitchen duties and ad-hoc tasks as directed by catering management.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks, including lifting, pushing, and pulling trolleys.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to follow instructions accurately.
  • A positive attitude and a commitment to teamwork.
  • Understanding of basic hygiene and food safety principles (training will be provided).
  • Reliability and punctuality.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a catering, healthcare, or similar customer service environment.
  • Basic Food Hygiene Certificate (Level 1 or 2).
