Job Description
Cargill Transportation is seeking an experienced and dedicated Livestock Hauler for Specialized Long Haul routes. This critical role involves the safe and humane transportation of various livestock species over extended distances, ensuring their well-being throughout the journey. You will be responsible for operating state-of-the-art equipment, adhering to strict animal welfare guidelines, and complying with all transportation regulations. Key Responsibilities
- Safely operate tractor-trailer combinations for the long-haul transportation of livestock.
- Conduct thorough pre-trip, en-route, and post-trip inspections of vehicles and trailers, ensuring all equipment is in excellent working order.
- Load and unload livestock humanely and efficiently, following established animal welfare protocols and minimizing stress.
- Monitor livestock health and well-being during transit, providing appropriate care as needed.
- Maintain accurate logs, records, and documentation of all trips, livestock movements, and vehicle maintenance.
- Comply with all federal, state, and company regulations regarding Hours of Service (HOS), animal welfare, and road safety.
- Communicate effectively with dispatch, farm personnel, and receiving facilities.
- Ensure cleanliness and proper sanitation of trailers to prevent disease transmission.
Required Skills
- Valid Class A Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
- Minimum of 3 years of verifiable experience in long-haul commercial driving.
- Proven experience in livestock hauling and handling.
- Clean driving record (MVR).
- Knowledge of animal welfare guidelines and humane handling practices.
- Ability to perform pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
- Strong understanding of DOT regulations and Hours of Service (HOS).
- Physical ability to load/unload livestock and perform routine vehicle maintenance tasks.
Preferred Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in specialized long-haul livestock transportation.
- Certification in animal handling or welfare.
- Experience with specific livestock types (e.g., cattle, swine, poultry).
- Familiarity with electronic logging devices (ELDs).
- High school diploma or GED.
