Job Description
As a Chemistry Intern, you will be an integral part of our research and development teams, supporting various chemistry-related projects. This paid internship, part of our Summer Vacation Program, provides exposure to modern synthetic chemistry techniques, analytical instrumentation, and drug discovery processes. You will work closely with senior chemists and research associates, contributing to the synthesis, purification, and characterization of novel chemical compounds. This is an excellent opportunity to apply academic knowledge in a practical industrial setting and gain valuable insights into the pharmaceutical R&D pipeline.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist in the synthesis of organic and inorganic compounds under the guidance of senior scientists.
- Perform purification techniques such as column chromatography, recrystallization, and solvent extraction.
- Characterize synthesized compounds using analytical techniques including NMR, LC-MS, HPLC, and FTIR.
- Maintain detailed and accurate records of experimental procedures, observations, and results in electronic laboratory notebooks.
- Prepare chemical reagents and solutions for laboratory experiments.
- Adhere strictly to all laboratory safety protocols and good laboratory practices (GLP).
- Participate in team meetings and present findings as required.
- Contribute to the general upkeep and organization of the chemistry laboratory.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Chemistry, Organic Chemistry, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Completion of at least two years of undergraduate chemistry coursework, including organic chemistry labs.
- Strong foundational knowledge of general chemistry principles and organic reaction mechanisms.
- Familiarity with basic laboratory techniques and equipment.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced research environment.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a research laboratory setting (academic or industrial).
- Familiarity with chemical structure drawing software (e.g., ChemDraw).
- Experience with analytical instrumentation (e.g., NMR, LC-MS).
- Strong problem-solving abilities and intellectual curiosity.
- Minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
