Job Description
Join CVS Health as a DME (Durable Medical Equipment) Pharmacy Technician with a specialized focus on home care. In this vital role, you will be instrumental in ensuring patients receive the correct medical equipment and supplies for their in-home care needs. You will work closely with patients, caregivers, and healthcare providers to coordinate equipment orders, process documentation, and ensure timely delivery and proper instruction for use. This position requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and a compassionate approach to patient care, all within a fast-paced pharmacy environment dedicated to supporting our community’s health at home.
Key Responsibilities
- Process and dispense Durable Medical Equipment (DME) orders for home care patients following physician prescriptions and established protocols.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and assist with prior authorization processes for DME.
- Educate patients and caregivers on the proper use, maintenance, and safety of medical equipment.
- Maintain accurate inventory of DME, including receiving, stocking, and organizing supplies.
- Liaise with healthcare providers, nurses, and home health agencies to coordinate patient care and equipment needs.
- Ensure all documentation, including patient records, delivery manifests, and billing information, is accurate and compliant with regulatory standards.
- Provide exceptional customer service, addressing patient inquiries and resolving issues related to DME.
- Adhere to all pharmacy laws, regulations, and company policies, particularly those pertaining to patient privacy (HIPAA) and medical equipment handling.
Required Skills
- Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) certification or ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician, preferably in a retail, hospital, or specialty pharmacy setting.
- Strong understanding of medical terminology, particularly related to Durable Medical Equipment (DME).
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with a patient-first mindset.
- Proficiency in pharmacy software systems and general computer applications.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a dynamic environment.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or higher in a related field.
- Experience specifically with DME order processing, inventory, or patient education.
- Familiarity with insurance billing and prior authorization procedures for medical equipment.
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish).
