Job Description
We are actively seeking a dedicated and safety-conscious Lumber Yard Forklift Operator to join our team in Athens, GA. This position requires operating a forklift in an outdoor lumber yard environment, handling various building materials including lumber, panels, and trusses. The successful candidate will be responsible for loading and unloading trucks, organizing inventory, and ensuring a safe and efficient workflow. This is an immediate hire opportunity for someone who thrives in a dynamic, fast-paced outdoor setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate a forklift safely and efficiently to load and unload delivery trucks and trailers with building materials.
- Transport materials to and from storage areas within the lumber yard.
- Organize and stack lumber, panels, and other building materials neatly and securely in designated areas.
- Conduct daily pre-shift inspections of the forklift and report any mechanical issues immediately.
- Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring compliance with all safety regulations.
- Assist with inventory counts and material handling as needed.
- Communicate effectively with team members, drivers, and supervisors.
Required Skills
- Minimum 6 months of experience operating a forklift, preferably in a lumber yard or similar outdoor industrial setting.
- Proven ability to work safely and follow all company and OSHA safety guidelines.
- Physical ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs) and perform strenuous tasks in various weather conditions.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid driver's license.
Preferred Qualifications
- Forklift certification from a recognized training program.
- Experience with different types of forklifts (e.g., sit-down, stand-up, reach trucks).
- Knowledge of various building materials, including lumber grades and dimensions.
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
