Job Description
We are seeking an exceptionally talented and dedicated Mastering Engineer to join our acclaimed audio team in Raleigh, NC. This is a pivotal role for a professional who possesses a deep understanding of audio mastering principles, a meticulous ear, and a passion for bringing music to its highest sonic potential. As a Mastering Engineer at Capitol Records, you will be responsible for the final sonic polish of a diverse range of musical projects, ensuring that they meet the highest industry standards for commercial release across all platforms. You will work with artists, producers, and A&R teams to achieve their artistic vision, contributing to the enduring legacy of our label.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform high-quality audio mastering for a wide array of musical genres and projects, preparing tracks for commercial release across digital, streaming, and physical formats.
- Utilize advanced audio processing techniques (EQ, compression, limiting, stereo imaging, noise reduction) with precision and musicality.
- Collaborate effectively with artists, producers, and A&R teams to understand their sonic goals and deliver masters that align with their creative vision.
- Conduct thorough quality control checks on all masters to ensure technical specifications, loudness standards, and sonic integrity are met.
- Maintain and calibrate mastering studio equipment, including analog and digital processors, converters, and monitoring systems.
- Archive project files and masters efficiently and securely.
- Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in audio mastering and distribution.
- Provide technical advice and support related to audio production and delivery specifications.
- Manage project timelines and deliver masters within agreed-upon deadlines.
Required Skills
- Minimum of 4 years of professional experience as a Mastering Engineer in a commercial studio or similar high-volume audio production environment.
- Expert proficiency with industry-standard Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) such as Pro Tools, Logic Pro, Nuendo, or Harrison Mixbus.
- Demonstrated mastery of mastering-specific software and plugins (e.g., iZotope Ozone, FabFilter Pro-MB, Weiss DS1-MK3, TC Electronic System 6000).
- Exceptional critical listening skills, with a finely tuned ear for frequency balance, dynamics, and stereo imaging.
- Profound understanding of audio acoustics, signal flow, and digital audio theory.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills to articulate technical concepts and work collaboratively with creative teams.
- Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to sonic excellence.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects simultaneously under pressure.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Music Production, or a related field.
- Certifications in specific audio software or hardware platforms.
- Experience with immersive audio formats (e.g., Dolby Atmos, Sony 360 Reality Audio).
- Familiarity with various DDP creation and verification tools.
