Job Description
We are seeking an exceptional and visionary Music Department Chair to lead our comprehensive music programs in South Gate. This is a significant leadership opportunity for a highly experienced and passionate music educator. The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing curriculum development, faculty mentorship, performance initiatives, and community engagement to foster a thriving musical environment for our students. This role demands strong pedagogical skills, administrative expertise, and a profound commitment to music education.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead, supervise, and evaluate all music faculty members within the department.
- Develop, implement, and assess a comprehensive and innovative music curriculum for K-12 students.
- Oversee the planning and execution of all music performances, concerts, and events.
- Manage departmental budget, resources, and inventory of instruments and equipment.
- Foster a collaborative and supportive environment for faculty and students.
- Engage with parents, community organizations, and external partners to promote music education.
- Recruit and retain talented music educators and enthusiastic students.
- Ensure compliance with district policies and educational standards.
Required Skills
- Master's Degree in Music Education, Music Performance, or a related field
- Valid California teaching credential in Music
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in music education, including at least 3 years in a leadership or supervisory role
- Demonstrated expertise in curriculum design and instructional strategies for diverse learners
- Exceptional musicianship and comprehensive knowledge of various musical genres and instruments
- Strong administrative, organizational, and communication skills
- Proven ability to inspire and mentor faculty and students
Preferred Qualifications
- Doctorate in Music Education or Educational Leadership
- Experience with grant writing and fundraising for music programs
- Proficiency in music technology and digital music production
- Bilingual proficiency (English/Spanish) to better serve our diverse student population
