Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and detail-oriented Non-Sterile Compounding Technician with a focus on custom medication preparation to join our pharmacy team in San Diego. In this crucial role, you will be responsible for accurately preparing non-sterile compounded medications in accordance with physician prescriptions, established formulas, and regulatory standards. Your work will directly impact patient care by providing customized solutions for those with unique medication needs. You will work closely with pharmacists, ensuring precision, safety, and efficiency in all compounding processes, while maintaining strict adherence to quality control and compliance protocols.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare non-sterile compounded medications accurately and efficiently following specific formulas and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs).
- Measure, weigh, and mix active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) and excipients using appropriate equipment.
- Maintain precise documentation of all compounding activities, including ingredient lot numbers, expiration dates, and preparation methods.
- Operate and maintain compounding equipment, ensuring proper calibration and cleanliness.
- Perform quality control checks on finished products to ensure consistency and accuracy.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal regulations, as well as company policies, related to pharmaceutical compounding and patient safety.
- Manage inventory of compounding ingredients and supplies, including ordering, receiving, and proper storage.
- Assist pharmacists with prescription verification, patient consultation support, and other pharmacy operations as needed.
- Ensure a clean and organized compounding area, following strict sanitation protocols.
- Participate in ongoing training and professional development to stay current with compounding best practices.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or GED
- Pharmacy Technician certification in California (CPhT)
- Minimum of 1 year of experience as a Pharmacy Technician
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
- Strong mathematical skills for precise measurements and calculations
- Ability to follow complex instructions and protocols meticulously
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in basic computer applications and pharmacy software
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in non-sterile compounding
- Knowledge of compounding-specific software systems
- Associate's Degree or higher in a related scientific field
- Familiarity with USP <795> guidelines
