Job Description
Join the Allen County Public Library as a Part-time Library Aide! This role is perfect for college students seeking flexible hours and a rewarding experience in a dynamic community setting. As a Library Aide, you will play a crucial role in maintaining the organization and accessibility of our collections, assisting patrons, and supporting various library operations. Key Responsibilities
- Assist patrons with locating materials, using catalogs, and basic inquiries.
- Accurately shelf and organize library materials (books, periodicals, media) according to classification systems.
- Process new arrivals, returns, and interlibrary loan materials, preparing them for circulation.
- Maintain neat and orderly library stacks, public areas, and workrooms.
- Provide basic technical assistance with library equipment such as computers, printers, and copiers.
- Support library programs and events through setup, breakdown, and general assistance as needed.
- Perform light clerical duties, including filing, data entry, and answering phones.
Required Skills
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Excellent customer service and interpersonal communication skills.
- Ability to follow instructions accurately and work independently as well as part of a team.
- Basic computer proficiency and comfort with technology.
- Physical ability to lift and move library materials weighing up to 25 pounds, push loaded book carts, and stand/walk for extended periods.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in a college or university program.
- Previous experience in a library, retail, or customer service environment.
- Familiarity with library classification systems (e.g., Dewey Decimal, Library of Congress).
