Job Description

We are seeking a dedicated and enthusiastic Public Lands Groundskeeper to join our vital team responsible for maintaining the beauty and functionality of Banbury’s public spaces. This role is crucial for ensuring our parks, open spaces, and communal areas are kept to the highest standards, providing pleasant environments for residents and visitors alike. Key Responsibilities

  • Perform general grounds maintenance duties including mowing, strimming, edging, and pruning of trees, shrubs, and hedges.
  • Planting and tending to flower beds, seasonal displays, and other horticultural features.
  • Litter picking and waste removal to ensure public spaces remain clean and tidy.
  • Maintaining and cleaning hard surfaces, pathways, and street furniture.
  • Operating a variety of grounds maintenance machinery and equipment safely and efficiently.
  • Identifying and reporting any hazards, maintenance issues, or vandalism.
  • Ensuring compliance with health and safety regulations at all times.
  • Assisting with other outdoor tasks as required, including event support or emergency clean-up operations.

Required Skills

  • Ability to perform physically demanding tasks in various weather conditions.
  • A strong work ethic and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Basic understanding of grounds maintenance techniques and equipment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in grounds maintenance, landscaping, or a similar outdoor role.
  • Full UK driving license (Category B).
  • Qualifications in horticulture, amenity horticulture, or a related field (e.g., NVQ Level 2).
  • Experience operating specialist grounds maintenance machinery (e.g., ride-on mowers, chainsaws, strimmers).
