Job Description
We are seeking a highly meticulous and experienced Sheet Music Editor to join our remote team. This role is critical for ensuring the utmost accuracy and quality of our published sheet music, across various genres and instrumentation. The ideal candidate will possess an exceptional eye for detail, a deep understanding of music theory and notation, and proficiency in music editing software. This is a 100% remote position, requiring a dedicated and self-disciplined individual who can thrive in an independent work environment while contributing to a collaborative goal of musical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Review and edit sheet music for musical accuracy, including pitch, rhythm, harmony, and dynamics.
- Verify adherence to established notation standards, engraving best practices, and house style guides.
- Proofread lyrics, chord symbols, and other textual elements for spelling, grammar, and consistency.
- Collaborate with transcribers, engravers, and project managers to resolve discrepancies and ensure high-quality output.
- Conduct final quality assurance checks before publication across digital and print formats.
- Manage multiple editing projects simultaneously, meeting strict deadlines and maintaining communication.
- Provide constructive feedback to improve transcription and engraving processes.
- Stay updated on industry trends in music notation software and publishing standards.
Required Skills
- Expert-level knowledge of music theory, harmony, and notation conventions.
- Proven experience in sheet music editing or proofreading (minimum 2 years).
- High proficiency with music notation software (e.g., Sibelius, Finale).
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy.
- Strong command of English grammar, spelling, and punctuation.
- Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote setting.
- Excellent communication and collaborative skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Theory, Composition, or a related field.
- Experience with various musical genres (classical, jazz, pop, rock, etc.).
- Familiarity with digital publishing workflows and content management systems.
- Ability to read and understand orchestral scores and complex arrangements.
- Experience working with international music standards.
