Job Description
Are you looking for an exciting entry-level opportunity to contribute to Canada’s economic security and public safety? The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) is seeking motivated and detail-oriented individuals to join our team as Trainee Customs Revenue Collectors. In this role, you will undergo comprehensive training to develop the skills necessary to assess, collect, and account for duties and taxes on imported goods, playing a crucial part in ensuring fair trade and compliance at our various port and border locations.
Key Responsibilities
- Participate actively in a structured training program covering customs legislation, revenue collection procedures, and border security protocols.
- Learn to accurately classify goods, calculate duties, taxes, and tariffs using various customs systems and resources.
- Process declarations for imported commercial and personal goods, ensuring compliance with all applicable Canadian laws and regulations.
- Assist in conducting examinations of cargo, conveyances, and travelers' effects to verify declarations and detect undeclared goods.
- Document findings, issue receipts, and maintain precise records of all transactions and revenue collected.
- Communicate effectively with importers, brokers, and the traveling public to provide information and clarify customs requirements.
- Collaborate with senior officers and team members to resolve discrepancies and address compliance issues.
- Adhere to all CBSA policies, procedures, and ethical standards.
Required Skills
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Strong numerical aptitude and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
- Basic computer proficiency and willingness to learn specialized software.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Government of Canada security clearance.
- Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
Preferred Qualifications
- Post-secondary education in business administration, accounting, law, or a related field.
- Experience in customer service, retail, or administrative roles involving financial transactions.
- Knowledge of customs procedures or international trade.
- Proficiency in both English and French (bilingualism is an asset).
