Job Description
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Speech Assistant to join our Educational Support team in Gilbert, AZ. This role involves providing essential support in the implementation of speech and language services for individuals within our educational or community outreach programs. The ideal candidate will work under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to assist in therapy sessions, prepare materials, and document progress. This position is crucial for fostering effective communication and learning environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist Speech-Language Pathologists (SLPs) with direct therapy services for individuals or groups, following documented treatment plans.
- Prepare and organize therapy materials, resources, and equipment for sessions.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of attendance, progress, and other required documentation.
- Observe and report on individual performance and behavior during therapy sessions to the supervising SLP.
- Implement therapeutic activities as directed by the supervising SLP.
- Provide support in various educational settings to enhance communication skills.
- Collaborate with team members to ensure a cohesive and supportive environment.
- Adhere to all confidentiality guidelines and ethical practices.
Required Skills
- High school diploma or GED.
- Basic understanding of speech and language development.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to follow directions and work effectively under supervision.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications for record-keeping and material preparation.
- Patience, empathy, and a genuine desire to help individuals improve their communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple tasks and maintain organization in a dynamic environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Associate's degree or higher in a related field (e.g., Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program, Education, Psychology).
- Previous experience working in an educational or therapeutic setting.
- Knowledge of various communication disorders and intervention techniques.
- First Aid and CPR certification.
