Job Description

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and experienced Music Copyright Specialist with a strong focus on intellectual property to join our New Port Richey team. This stable role is crucial for managing and safeguarding our extensive music catalog. The successful candidate will be responsible for the accurate administration, registration, and protection of musical works copyrights, ensuring compliance with global intellectual property laws and internal policies. This position requires a proactive individual who can navigate complex copyright issues, perform diligent research, and contribute to the ongoing success of our songwriters.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage and maintain accurate copyright registration for musical works with relevant PROs and governmental bodies (e.g., U.S. Copyright Office).
  • Conduct thorough research into copyright ownership, usage rights, and historical data to resolve discrepancies and confirm intellectual property claims.
  • Monitor global usage of musical works and identify potential infringements, working closely with legal teams to pursue appropriate action.
  • Process and manage licensing requests, ensuring all terms and conditions comply with copyright law and company policies.
  • Provide expert guidance on copyright best practices and IP compliance to internal stakeholders.
  • Maintain comprehensive databases and documentation related to copyright agreements, licenses, and ownership.
  • Assist in the preparation of legal documents, reports, and presentations pertaining to intellectual property matters.
  • Stay current with developments in copyright law, intellectual property rights, and music industry standards.

Required Skills

  • Proven experience (minimum 4 years) in music copyright administration or intellectual property management within the music industry.
  • In-depth knowledge of U.S. copyright law, international copyright treaties, and intellectual property rights.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Strong research and analytical capabilities, particularly in complex legal and contractual documents.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and copyright management software.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information with discretion.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music Business, Legal Studies, or a related field.
  • Paralegal certificate or equivalent legal training.
  • Experience with global performing rights organizations (PROs) and mechanical rights societies.
  • Familiarity with digital rights management (DRM) and online content protection.
  • Ability to speak a second language relevant to international copyright markets.
