Job Description
We are actively seeking dedicated and experienced Temporary Salt Spreader Drivers to join our team in Decatur for the high winter demand season. This critical role involves operating specialized equipment to apply salt and de-icing agents on roads, parking lots, and other designated areas, ensuring safety and accessibility during inclement weather. Successful candidates will be crucial in our efforts to maintain safe environments for our community and clients throughout the winter months. This is an on-site position requiring flexibility and readiness to respond to varying weather conditions.
Key Responsibilities
- Operate salt spreader trucks and related equipment safely and efficiently.
- Apply de-icing materials accurately to roads, parking lots, and other specified surfaces according to dispatch instructions.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of vehicles and equipment, reporting any mechanical issues promptly.
- Maintain accurate logs of routes, materials used, and hours worked.
- Adhere strictly to all traffic laws, company safety policies, and local regulations.
- Monitor weather conditions and respond to dispatch calls for service as needed, including irregular hours and weekends.
- Perform basic maintenance and cleaning of equipment as required.
Required Skills
- Valid Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
- Proven experience operating heavy equipment, preferably in winter conditions.
- Strong understanding of safety protocols related to vehicle operation and material handling.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team in challenging weather environments.
- Excellent time management and route planning skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prior experience as a salt spreader, snowplow operator, or similar winter maintenance role.
- Mechanical aptitude for minor equipment adjustments.
- Familiarity with local Decatur-area routes and geography.
