Job Description

We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Laboratory Operations Manager with a strong administrative chemistry focus to oversee the daily functions and strategic development of our analytical chemistry laboratories. The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring operational efficiency, compliance with safety and quality standards, and the effective management of resources to support various research projects. This role requires a blend of scientific understanding, administrative prowess, and leadership to maintain a high-performing laboratory environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage day-to-day laboratory operations, including scheduling, resource allocation, and workflow optimization.
  • Ensure strict adherence to safety protocols, quality assurance programs (e.g., ISO 17025, GLP), and regulatory requirements.
  • Oversee inventory management of chemicals, reagents, and consumables, including procurement and proper disposal in compliance with environmental regulations.
  • Develop and implement standard operating procedures (SOPs) for laboratory processes, equipment maintenance, and data management.
  • Coordinate calibration and maintenance of analytical instrumentation (e.g., GC-MS, HPLC, AA, ICP-MS).
  • Train and mentor laboratory staff on operational best practices, safety procedures, and instrument usage.
  • Manage laboratory budget, track expenditures, and identify opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements.
  • Liaise with research teams, project managers, and external vendors to ensure seamless project execution and supply chain efficiency.
  • Maintain accurate records and documentation for all laboratory activities, audits, and compliance checks.
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives within the laboratory to enhance productivity and quality.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related scientific field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in laboratory operations or management, specifically within an analytical chemistry setting.
  • Demonstrated experience with regulatory compliance (e.g., GLP, ISO 17025) and safety standards.
  • Strong understanding of chemical inventory management, hazard communication, and waste disposal protocols.
  • Proficiency in developing and implementing SOPs.
  • Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proven ability to manage budgets and resources effectively.
  • Familiarity with various analytical instrumentation and their operational principles.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Chemistry or a related field.
  • PMP certification or experience in project management.
  • Experience with LIMS (Laboratory Information Management System) and other lab automation software.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification or experience in process improvement methodologies.
  • Previous experience in a contract research organization (CRO) or a multi-disciplinary R&D environment.
