Job Description

We are seeking a passionate and aspiring Trading Card Game (TCG) Design Intern to join our innovative design team. This is a unique opportunity for individuals eager to learn the intricate art and science of TCG development from industry veterans. You will contribute to various stages of game design, from concept generation and prototyping to playtesting and iteration, gaining invaluable hands-on experience in a fast-paced creative environment. This hybrid role balances in-office collaboration with remote flexibility.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist senior designers in brainstorming, conceptualizing, and developing new card mechanics and set themes.
  • Create and maintain design documents, card databases, and prototype materials.
  • Participate actively in internal and external playtests, meticulously documenting feedback and suggesting design improvements.
  • Analyze game data and player feedback to identify balance issues and opportunities for enhanced gameplay.
  • Collaborate with art, lore, and development teams to ensure cohesive and engaging product experiences.
  • Conduct competitive analysis of existing TCGs and market trends to inform design decisions.

Required Skills

  • Demonstrable passion for and in-depth knowledge of at least one major Trading Card Game (e.g., Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon TCG, Yu-Gi-Oh!).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with an ability to deconstruct game systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficiency in basic office software (e.g., Google Workspace, Microsoft Office).
  • Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a relevant program (e.g., Game Design, Creative Writing, Mathematics, Computer Science, or similar).

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with digital prototyping tools or basic scripting.
  • Previous experience with game design projects, personal TCG designs, or extensive community involvement.
  • Familiarity with game balance principles and statistical analysis.
  • Knowledge of other tabletop games, board games, or video games.
