Job Description

The Irvine Conservatory of Music is seeking a highly skilled and passionate Cello Instructor to join our esteemed faculty. This is an excellent opportunity for a dedicated musician and educator to teach private and potentially group cello lessons to students of various ages and proficiencies. The ideal candidate will possess a strong performance background, a deep understanding of cello pedagogy, and a commitment to student success.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide high-quality, individualized cello instruction to students of all ages (children, teens, adults) and skill levels (beginner to advanced).
  • Develop and implement engaging lesson plans tailored to each student's goals and learning style.
  • Monitor student progress, provide constructive feedback, and assess performance regularly.
  • Prepare students for recitals, auditions, competitions, and examinations (e.g., ABRSM, CM) as appropriate.
  • Maintain a professional and inspiring learning environment.
  • Communicate effectively with students and their parents/guardians regarding progress and expectations.
  • Participate in faculty meetings and Conservatory events as required.
  • Adhere to the Conservatory's policies and procedures.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional proficiency as a cello performer.
  • Proven experience in teaching cello, preferably in a private academy setting.
  • Strong understanding of cello pedagogy, technique, and repertoire across various periods.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to adapt teaching methods to suit individual student needs.
  • Patience, enthusiasm, and a genuine passion for music education.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Cello Performance, Music Education, or a related field.
  • Formal teacher training or certification.
  • Experience with music theory, sight-reading, and ear training instruction.
  • Familiarity with various teaching methodologies (e.g., Suzuki, traditional).
