Job Description
We are seeking a diligent and empathetic Clinical Assistant to join our dedicated team at The Arch Medical Practice. This is a full-time position focused on an afternoon roster, offering stability and the opportunity to become an integral part of our patient care delivery. As a Clinical Assistant, you will play a vital role in supporting our GPs and nurses, ensuring the smooth operation of clinical sessions, and providing an excellent experience for our patients. You will be responsible for a variety of administrative and clinical support tasks, contributing directly to the efficiency and quality of our services. This role is perfect for someone looking for a stable work pattern within a supportive healthcare setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage patient reception, check-in, and waiting areas during afternoon clinics, ensuring a welcoming environment.
- Prepare consulting rooms for clinicians, ensuring all necessary equipment and supplies are readily available and sterile.
- Assist GPs and nurses with minor procedures, including chaperone duties and basic patient observations as directed.
- Maintain accurate and up-to-date patient records, both digital (EMIS Web) and physical, ensuring confidentiality.
- Handle incoming patient calls, inquiries, and booking appointments efficiently and courteously.
- Process and manage prescriptions, referrals, and lab results in accordance with practice protocols.
- Monitor and replenish clinical stock levels, ensuring all supplies are adequately stocked and within expiry dates.
- Maintain cleanliness and organisation of clinical areas and equipment, adhering to infection control policies.
- Support the wider administrative team with general office duties during quieter periods.
- Participate in mandatory training and continuous professional development programs.
Required Skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in IT systems, including Microsoft Office Suite and ideally general practice clinical systems (e.g., EMIS Web, SystmOne).
- Ability to work effectively under pressure and manage multiple tasks.
- A compassionate and patient-focused approach.
- High level of attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
- Understanding of patient confidentiality and data protection (GDPR).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a healthcare or clinical setting (e.g., GP surgery, hospital, care home).
- NVQ Level 2 or 3 in Health and Social Care or a related field.
- Basic First Aid certification.
- Knowledge of medical terminology.
- Experience with clinical patient management systems (e.g., EMIS Web).
