Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated Junior Drilling Engineer with a Mechanical Design focus to join our dynamic team in Evanston, IL. This entry-level position is ideal for recent graduates or early-career professionals passionate about applying mechanical engineering principles to solve complex challenges in the drilling industry. You will contribute to the design, analysis, and optimization of drilling tools and equipment, ensuring performance, reliability, and safety. This role offers an excellent opportunity to gain hands-on experience and work alongside experienced engineers on cutting-edge projects within the oil and gas sector.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist in the mechanical design and analysis of drilling components and systems using CAD software and FEA tools.
  • Conduct simulations and calculations to predict performance, stress, and fatigue life of drilling equipment.
  • Prepare technical drawings, specifications, and documentation for manufacturing and assembly.
  • Participate in design reviews, offering insights and incorporating feedback to improve designs.
  • Support testing and validation activities for new and existing drilling tools.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including manufacturing, supply chain, and field operations, to ensure successful product development and deployment.
  • Research new materials, technologies, and manufacturing processes to enhance product innovation.
  • Adhere to company safety standards and engineering best practices in all aspects of work.
  • Contribute to problem-solving and troubleshooting activities related to drilling equipment performance.

Required Skills

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proficiency in CAD software (e.g., SolidWorks, AutoCAD, Inventor).
  • Basic understanding of Finite Element Analysis (FEA) principles.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
  • Fundamental knowledge of mechanical design principles, material science, and manufacturing processes.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Internship or co-op experience in mechanical design, oil and gas, or a related heavy industry.
  • Familiarity with drilling operations or downhole tool design.
  • Experience with engineering simulation software (e.g., ANSYS, Abaqus).
  • Knowledge of industry standards and regulations relevant to drilling equipment.
