Job Description

We are seeking a highly skilled and passionate Mastering Engineer to join our esteemed team at Sterling Sound. This professional role involves critical listening, artistic interpretation, and technical precision to prepare audio for final release across various formats. The successful candidate will work with a diverse range of genres and artists, ensuring the highest quality sound while preserving the artist’s original vision. You will be responsible for applying your expert knowledge of acoustics, signal processing, and audio standards to enhance clarity, impact, and consistency across tracks and albums.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform high-quality audio mastering for a wide array of musical genres and projects.
  • Collaborate closely with artists, producers, and label representatives to understand their creative vision and sonic goals.
  • Utilize a comprehensive suite of analog and digital mastering equipment and software to achieve optimal results.
  • Conduct critical listening sessions to identify and address sonic imperfections, ensuring pristine audio quality.
  • Prepare masters for various distribution formats including streaming, CD, vinyl, and high-resolution digital downloads.
  • Maintain and calibrate mastering studio equipment to ensure consistent and accurate performance.
  • Stay current with industry trends, technologies, and best practices in audio mastering and production.
  • Manage project timelines effectively, meeting deadlines while maintaining the highest standards of quality.
  • Archive project files and session data securely and systematically.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of 3 years of professional audio mastering experience in a commercial studio setting.
  • Expert proficiency with industry-standard Digital Audio Workstations (DAWs) such as SADiE, Pyramix, or Sequoia.
  • In-depth understanding of acoustics, psychoacoustics, and signal processing techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to make critical, objective listening judgments and translate them into sonic improvements.
  • Strong knowledge of audio codecs, file formats, and mastering specifications for various platforms.
  • Proficiency with analog and digital mastering hardware (EQs, compressors, limiters, converters).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills to articulate technical concepts and creative decisions.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and a commitment to sonic perfection.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a collaborative team.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Audio Engineering, Music Production, or a related field.
  • Experience with DSD mastering workflows.
  • Familiarity with various vinyl cutting and production processes.
  • Established relationships within the music industry network.
  • Proficiency in multiple languages is a plus.
