Job Description
Are you looking to kick-start your career in civil engineering? Balfour Beatty is offering an exciting opportunity for a Trainee Civil Engineering Assistant to join our Public Works team in Beaconsfield. This paid training position is designed for individuals with little to no prior experience, providing comprehensive on-the-job training and mentorship to develop a strong foundation in civil engineering practices within a public works context. You will play a vital role in supporting the planning, design, and execution of local infrastructure projects, learning from experienced professionals every step of the way.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior engineers in the preparation of project plans, drawings, and specifications for public works projects.
- Conduct site visits and inspections, documenting progress and identifying potential issues.
- Support the collection and analysis of survey data and construction materials.
- Maintain accurate project documentation, records, and reports.
- Learn and apply relevant health, safety, and environmental regulations and standards.
- Collaborate with various stakeholders, including local authorities, contractors, and community members.
- Assist with quality control procedures and ensure compliance with project requirements.
- Undertake any other duties as required to support the successful delivery of projects.
Required Skills
- A keen interest in civil engineering, construction, and public infrastructure.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
- Proficiency in basic computer applications (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
- Ability to learn quickly and adapt to new challenges.
- A valid UK driving license or willingness to obtain one (due to site visits).
Preferred Qualifications
- Achieved or working towards A-levels in relevant subjects (e.g., Mathematics, Physics, Design & Technology) or equivalent vocational qualifications.
- Some prior experience in a construction-related environment (e.g., volunteering, work experience, part-time job) is a plus but not essential.
- Familiarity with CAD software is a bonus.
