Job Description

We are seeking dedicated and physically strong individuals to join our demolition team as a Scrap Wood & Drywall Remover. This entry-level position is crucial for maintaining a clean and safe work environment during demolition projects. You will be responsible for the manual removal of various materials, ensuring the site is prepped for subsequent phases and waste is properly sorted for disposal or recycling. This role requires significant heavy lifting and adherence to strict safety protocols.

Key Responsibilities

  • Manually remove and clear scrap wood, drywall, and other debris from demolition sites.
  • Sort and separate materials for recycling or proper disposal according to company and environmental guidelines.
  • Load debris into containers, dumpsters, or trucks using appropriate tools and techniques.
  • Assist with general site clean-up and organization to maintain a safe working area.
  • Perform heavy lifting and physically demanding tasks continuously throughout the workday (up to 50 lbs / 23 kg).
  • Operate basic hand tools and power tools safely as directed by supervisors.
  • Follow all safety procedures, including consistently wearing personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Communicate effectively with supervisors and team members to ensure coordinated efforts.
  • Assist skilled tradespersons and other team members with demolition prep as needed.

Required Skills

  • Ability to lift heavy objects repeatedly (up to 50 lbs / 23 kg).
  • Physical stamina and endurance for strenuous work in various weather conditions.
  • Strong work ethic, reliability, and punctuality.
  • Ability to follow instructions accurately and work effectively in a team environment.
  • Basic understanding of construction site safety or a strong willingness to learn and adhere to them immediately.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a construction, demolition, or similar physically demanding labor role.
  • Valid Class 5 driver's license with a clean abstract.
  • Construction Safety Training System (CSTS-09 or 2020) certification.
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification.
