Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and dedicated Theatrical Lighting Design Intern to join our Stagecraft team. This is an unparalleled opportunity for an aspiring lighting designer to gain hands-on experience in a professional theatre environment. Under the guidance of our experienced lighting designers and technicians, you will contribute to the visual storytelling of our productions, learning the intricacies of lighting design from concept to execution. This internship is designed to provide comprehensive exposure to the full lifecycle of theatrical lighting.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist lead lighting designers with research, concept development, and creation of lighting plots.
- Support the technical team during rigging, focusing, and programming sessions.
- Learn and operate lighting consoles and associated software for rehearsals and performances.
- Maintain lighting equipment, including fixtures, cables, and accessories.
- Participate in production meetings, offering creative input and learning collaborative processes.
- Document lighting designs, cues, and technical specifications accurately.
- Adhere to all safety protocols and theatre regulations.
- Assist with other stagecraft duties as required, providing a holistic understanding of theatre production.
Required Skills
- Basic understanding of theatrical lighting principles and terminology.
- Familiarity with DMX control systems and basic lighting fixtures.
- Strong interest in theatre, stagecraft, and lighting design.
- Excellent attention to detail and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
- Good communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Physical ability to assist with equipment setup and movement.
Preferred Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a theatre production, lighting design, or related program.
- Experience with lighting design software (e.g., Lightwright, Vectorworks, CAD).
- Basic knowledge of electricity and electronics as applied to stage lighting.
- Prior experience in school or community theatre productions.
- A portfolio demonstrating creative lighting concepts or projects.
