Job Description
We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Orthopedic Staff Nurse with a specialized focus on Sports Medicine to join our dynamic team at HCA Florida Trinity Hospital. In this pivotal role, you will provide direct patient care to individuals recovering from sports-related injuries, orthopedic surgeries, and musculoskeletal conditions. Your expertise will be crucial in facilitating patient recovery, managing pain, and educating patients and their families on post-operative care and rehabilitation protocols. This position requires a nurse who is passionate about orthopedic health, committed to evidence-based practice, and thrives in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate patient care plans for orthopedic and sports medicine patients.
- Administer medications and treatments as prescribed by physicians, monitoring for effectiveness and adverse reactions.
- Provide pre-operative and post-operative care, including wound care, pain management, and mobility assistance.
- Educate patients and their families on surgical procedures, recovery timelines, and home care instructions.
- Collaborate with orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and other healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive patient care.
- Maintain accurate and thorough patient records in accordance with hospital policies and regulatory standards.
- Monitor vital signs, recognize changes in patient condition, and initiate appropriate interventions.
- Participate in quality improvement initiatives and continuing education relevant to orthopedic and sports medicine nursing.
- Ensure a safe and clean environment for patients, adhering to infection control protocols.
Required Skills
- Active Registered Nurse (RN) license in Florida
- Minimum of 2 years of experience in orthopedic nursing or acute care setting
- BLS certification (ACLS preferred)
- Strong clinical assessment and critical thinking skills
- Excellent communication and interpersonal abilities
- Proficiency in electronic health records (EHR) systems
- Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment
Preferred Qualifications
- BSN degree preferred
- Certification in Orthopedic Nursing (ONC)
- Experience with sports medicine patients and rehabilitation protocols
- Previous experience in a Magnet-recognized facility
