Job Description
Are you passionate about climbing and eager to start a rewarding career in a dynamic, active environment? Redpoint Climbing Centre is seeking enthusiastic individuals to join our team as a Climbing Gym Belay Instructor (Trainee) in Southampton. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone with little to no prior experience in belaying, who is ready to learn and develop their skills while contributing to a vibrant climbing community. As a Trainee Belay Instructor, you will undergo comprehensive training to become proficient in all aspects of belaying and climbing safety. Your primary role will be to ensure the safety of our climbers, provide expert instruction, and foster a welcoming and supportive atmosphere for everyone at our centre. Key Responsibilities
- Successfully complete all required belay and safety training provided by Redpoint Climbing Centre.
- Learn and master various belay techniques for top-roping and lead climbing under supervision.
- Provide clear, concise, and accurate belay and safety instructions to new and experienced climbers.
- Actively supervise climbing areas, ensuring all participants adhere to safety protocols and facility rules.
- Conduct equipment checks and assist with the proper maintenance and storage of climbing gear.
- Offer exceptional customer service, assisting climbers with queries, gear rental, and general centre information.
- Respond promptly and effectively to any incidents or emergencies, following established procedures.
- Maintain a clean, organised, and safe climbing environment.
- Foster a positive and inclusive community spirit within the gym.

- No prior belay experience is necessary – full training will be provided!
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a customer service or guest-facing role.
- Basic first aid and/or CPR certification (or willingness to obtain).
- Experience participating in sports, fitness, or outdoor activities.
