Job Description

We are seeking an inspirational and strategic Director of Nursing to lead our patient care and nursing strategy across our services within the Accrington district. This pivotal role requires an experienced and visionary leader to drive clinical excellence, ensure patient safety, and champion professional development for our nursing workforce. The successful candidate will be responsible for setting high standards of care, implementing innovative practices, and fostering a culture of compassion and continuous improvement. Key Responsibilities

  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for all nursing services and patient care standards.
  • Oversee the development, implementation, and evaluation of nursing policies, procedures, and protocols.
  • Ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements and professional standards for nursing practice.
  • Lead initiatives for continuous quality improvement and patient safety across all clinical areas.
  • Manage and develop a highly skilled and motivated nursing workforce, promoting professional growth and succession planning.
  • Collaborate with multi-disciplinary teams to enhance integrated care pathways and patient experience.
  • Manage significant budgets and resources effectively, optimizing operational efficiency.
  • Act as a visible leader and advocate for nursing, representing the Trust at local, regional, and national forums.
  • Champion patient engagement and involvement in care planning and service improvement.

Required Skills

  • Current registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) as a Registered Nurse.
  • Extensive senior leadership experience (at least 5 years) in nursing management within a complex healthcare setting.
  • Proven track record of driving quality improvement and patient safety initiatives.
  • Strong strategic planning, financial management, and resource allocation skills.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire, motivate, and develop large teams.
  • In-depth knowledge of healthcare regulations, clinical governance, and best practices.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Master's degree in Nursing, Healthcare Management, or a related field.
  • Formal leadership or management qualifications.
  • Experience working within an NHS Trust environment.
  • Published work or presentations on nursing leadership or healthcare innovation.
