Job Description
We are seeking a highly motivated and enthusiastic Flavor & Fragrance Chemistry Intern to join our dynamic R&D team in Calgary. This internship offers a unique opportunity for students or recent graduates to gain hands-on experience in the fascinating world of flavor and fragrance development. The intern will support our chemists and perfumers in various research and development activities, contributing to the creation of innovative products. This is an on-site, full-time internship designed to provide comprehensive exposure to the industry.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist senior chemists in the preparation of flavor and fragrance samples for evaluation.
- Conduct basic laboratory experiments, including weighing, mixing, and analysis of raw materials and finished products.
- Maintain accurate and detailed records of experimental procedures and results.
- Support the maintenance of laboratory equipment and ensure a clean and organized work environment.
- Perform quality control checks on incoming raw materials and outgoing samples.
- Contribute to literature reviews and research on new ingredients or analytical techniques.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to support ongoing projects.
- Adhere strictly to all safety protocols and laboratory guidelines.
Required Skills
- Currently enrolled in or recently graduated from a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Food Science, Biochemistry, or a related scientific field.
- Strong foundational knowledge of general chemistry principles and laboratory techniques.
- Proficiency in basic laboratory equipment operation (e.g., balances, pH meters).
- Excellent attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous laboratory experience, either academic or industrial, in a chemistry-related field.
- Familiarity with sensory evaluation techniques or an interest in flavor/fragrance perception.
- Knowledge of analytical instrumentation (e.g., GC-MS, HPLC) is a plus.
- Demonstrated passion for the flavor and fragrance industry.
