Job Description
Mitie is seeking a diligent and reliable Government Building Porter to join our team, supporting a secure government facility in York. This full-time, on-site role is critical to maintaining a safe, clean, and operational environment for government personnel and visitors. The successful candidate will be responsible for a range of porterage and light maintenance duties, adhering strictly to security protocols and operational guidelines. This Monday-Friday position offers a stable work schedule within a professional setting, contributing to the smooth functioning of essential public services. Prior experience in a secure environment is preferred but not essential, as comprehensive training will be provided.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform general porterage duties, including moving furniture, equipment, and deliveries as required.
- Assist with setting up and clearing meeting rooms, ensuring they are prepared for use.
- Conduct regular checks of designated areas, identifying and reporting any maintenance or security issues promptly.
- Support the facilities team with minor repairs and maintenance tasks.
- Manage incoming and outgoing mail and parcels, ensuring secure delivery and dispatch.
- Adhere strictly to all site security procedures and health and safety regulations.
- Respond to requests from building occupants in a professional and efficient manner.
- Maintain cleanliness and tidiness in communal areas, support areas, and offices.
Required Skills
- Physical stamina and ability to lift and move objects.
- Strong work ethic and reliability.
- Basic communication skills (written and verbal).
- Ability to follow instructions meticulously.
- Understanding of basic health and safety practices.
- Ability to pass enhanced security background checks.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a porter, facilities assistant, or similar role.
- Experience working within a secure or government environment.
- Full UK driving license.
- First Aid certification.
