Job Description

We are seeking dedicated and reliable individuals to join our team as Night Shift Hospital Porters. This vital role ensures the smooth operation of our hospitals during the night, providing essential support to clinical staff and patients alike. You will be responsible for a wide range of tasks, from transporting patients and equipment to delivering crucial supplies, all while maintaining a calm and respectful demeanor. We offer enhanced rates for night shifts and the opportunity for ongoing, stable work within a respected NHS Trust.

Key Responsibilities

  • Transport patients safely and courteously between wards, departments, and clinics.
  • Move medical equipment, beds, trolleys, and other items as required.
  • Deliver specimens, notes, supplies, and mail throughout the hospital.
  • Assist with the movement of deceased patients to the mortuary, showing respect and dignity.
  • Respond promptly to requests via radio or pager system.
  • Ensure a clean and safe environment by assisting with waste management and general tidying.
  • Adhere to all health and safety regulations and hospital policies.
  • Maintain accurate records of tasks completed and report any issues.
  • Provide excellent customer service to patients, visitors, and staff at all times.

Required Skills

  • Ability to work effectively during night hours.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent physical fitness and ability to lift and move heavy items safely.
  • Reliable, punctual, and highly organized.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • A calm and compassionate demeanor, especially when interacting with patients.
  • Basic literacy and numeracy skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a portering or healthcare environment.
  • Knowledge of health and safety procedures in a hospital setting.
  • Full UK driving licence (useful but not essential).
