Job Description

Are you passionate about working with young children and eager to kickstart a rewarding career in Early Childhood Education? The YMCA is looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Preschool Helper (Assistant) to join our dynamic team. This entry-level position is perfect for individuals with little to no prior experience in childcare, offering a unique opportunity to gain hands-on experience while we support you in acquiring your Early Childhood Education (ECE) certifications. You will play a vital role in creating a positive and stimulating learning environment for preschool-aged children, assisting our certified Early Childhood Educators with daily activities, supervision, and program implementation. Key Responsibilities

  • Assist Early Childhood Educators (ECEs) with the daily planning and implementation of age-appropriate activities and curriculum.
  • Supervise children during indoor and outdoor play, ensuring their safety and well-being at all times.
  • Help maintain a clean, organized, and stimulating learning environment.
  • Support children with personal care routines, including meal times, nap times, and toileting.
  • Engage actively with children, fostering their social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development.
  • Communicate effectively with ECEs regarding children's progress, behaviors, and needs.
  • Participate in ongoing training and professional development, actively working towards ECE certification.
  • Follow all YMCA policies and procedures, as well as provincial childcare regulations.
  • Assist with preparing snacks and meals, adhering to nutritional guidelines and allergy protocols.

  • Ability to obtain a clear Vulnerable Sector Check (VSC) and provide a satisfactory medical report.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR Level C certification, or willingness to obtain immediately upon hire.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous volunteer or paid experience working with children (e.g., babysitting, camp counselor, tutoring).
  • Basic understanding of child development principles.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
