Job Description

We are seeking a highly detail-oriented and experienced Sheet Music Editor to join our remote team. This role is crucial for ensuring the impeccable accuracy and quality of our published sheet music across various genres and instrumentations. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of music theory, notation software, and a meticulous eye for detail. You will be responsible for reviewing, proofreading, and correcting musical scores, ensuring they meet the highest standards of clarity, consistency, and professional presentation.

Key Responsibilities

  • Rigorously review and proofread sheet music for errors in notation, engraving, layout, and textual content.
  • Verify accuracy of pitch, rhythm, harmony, articulation, dynamics, and other musical markings.
  • Ensure consistency in formatting, style guides, and house rules across all publications.
  • Collaborate with composers, arrangers, and transcribers to clarify musical intentions and resolve discrepancies.
  • Utilize music notation software (e.g., Finale, Sibelius, Dorico) for editing and corrections.
  • Maintain a high level of productivity while adhering to strict deadlines.
  • Provide constructive feedback and suggestions for improving the overall quality of musical scores.
  • Manage multiple projects simultaneously, prioritizing tasks effectively.
  • Stay informed about current best practices in music notation and publishing standards.

Required Skills

  • Exceptional knowledge of music theory, harmony, and counterpoint.
  • Expert proficiency in at least one major music notation software (e.g., Finale, Sibelius, Dorico).
  • Proven experience in sheet music editing or engraving with a focus on accuracy.
  • Outstanding attention to detail and a meticulous approach to work.
  • Strong command of English grammar and spelling.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively in a remote environment.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Music, Music Theory, Music Performance, or a related field.
  • Experience with various musical genres (classical, jazz, pop, etc.).
  • Familiarity with publishing workflows and digital asset management systems.
  • A portfolio of previous editing or engraving work.
  • Proficiency in multiple music notation software programs.
