Job Description
We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated Veteran Affairs Outreach Assistant to join our team in Beaconsfield. In this vital role, you will be instrumental in connecting with veterans, understanding their needs, and ensuring they have access to the full range of support services offered by the Royal British Legion and our partners. You will be the first point of contact for many, requiring empathy, excellent communication skills, and a proactive approach to community engagement. This is a crucial position for someone passionate about making a tangible difference in the lives of those who have served our country.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct outreach activities within the Beaconsfield community to identify and engage with veterans and their families.
- Provide initial assessment of veteran needs, signposting to appropriate internal and external support services (e.g., financial aid, housing, mental health, employment).
- Maintain accurate and confidential records of interactions and support provided.
- Organise and participate in local events, workshops, and information sessions for the veteran community.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with local community groups, service providers, and volunteers.
- Assist in the development and distribution of informational materials about available services.
- Report on outreach activities and outcomes to the regional team.
- Uphold the values and mission of the Royal British Legion in all interactions.
Required Skills
- Demonstrable empathy and a genuine desire to support veterans.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, both written and verbal.
- Strong organisational and time management abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Valid UK driving license and access to a vehicle for outreach activities.
- Understanding of data protection and confidentiality principles.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in a community outreach, support worker, or social care role.
- Knowledge of the UK Armed Forces community and the challenges veterans may face.
- Experience working with vulnerable adults or diverse populations.
- Familiarity with local Beaconsfield community resources and networks.
- NVQ Level 2 or equivalent in Health and Social Care, Community Development, or a related field.
