Job Description
We are seeking a passionate and experienced Community Choir Conductor to lead our adult community choir. This role is perfect for an individual who thrives in a collaborative environment and is dedicated to nurturing musical talent within a diverse group of singers. The conductor will be responsible for selecting repertoire, leading rehearsals, and preparing the choir for public performances. This position primarily involves evening shifts to accommodate our members’ schedules, focusing on creating an engaging and supportive atmosphere for all participants.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead engaging and productive weekly evening choir rehearsals.
- Select appropriate and diverse musical repertoire that challenges and inspires choir members.
- Teach vocal techniques, music theory, and sight-reading skills relevant to the selected repertoire.
- Prepare the choir for public performances, including concerts, community events, and collaborative projects.
- Foster a positive, inclusive, and encouraging environment for all choir members, regardless of their musical background.
- Manage rehearsal logistics, including attendance, sheet music distribution, and rehearsal space setup.
- Collaborate with the Artistic Director and administrative staff on scheduling, programming, and promotional activities.
- Provide constructive feedback to individual singers and the choir as a whole to enhance performance quality.
Required Skills
- Proven experience in choral conducting and rehearsal techniques.
- Strong musicality, including excellent ear training and sight-reading abilities.
- Proficiency in piano accompaniment for rehearsals.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to inspire and motivate diverse groups.
- Knowledge of various choral styles and repertoire.
- Demonstrated leadership abilities and organizational skills.
- Ability to work evening shifts consistently.
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Music, Choral Conducting, or a related field.
- Experience working with community-based choirs or amateur singers.
- Familiarity with local Buffalo music and arts scene.
