Job Description

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Tow Truck Operator to join our dedicated team in Fort Wayne, Indiana. This is a full-time position on a 24/7 rotating roster, offering a competitive base salary plus commission, reflecting the critical nature and demands of the role. As a Tow Truck Operator, you will be a frontline hero, responding to calls for roadside assistance, vehicle recoveries, and towing services for AAA members and the public. You will operate various types of tow trucks (flatbed, wheel-lift) and be responsible for safe and efficient service delivery, ensuring customer satisfaction and adherence to all safety protocols and company standards. Key Responsibilities

  • Operate tow trucks (flatbed, wheel-lift) safely and efficiently to perform roadside assistance, vehicle recoveries, and transportation.
  • Respond promptly to dispatch calls and arrive at incident scenes in a timely manner.
  • Assess vehicle damage and situation to determine the safest and most effective towing or recovery method.
  • Secure vehicles properly for transport, ensuring no further damage during towing.
  • Provide basic roadside assistance services such as tire changes, jump-starts, and fuel delivery.
  • Maintain clear and respectful communication with customers, providing updates and reassurance.
  • Complete all necessary paperwork and electronic documentation accurately and completely.
  • Conduct daily pre-trip and post-trip inspections of assigned vehicles and equipment.
  • Keep tow truck and equipment clean, organized, and in good working order.
  • Adhere to all traffic laws, company policies, and safety regulations.
  • Participate in a rotating 24/7 on-call schedule, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Required Skills

  • Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with a clean driving record.
  • Minimum of 3 years of professional tow truck operating experience.
  • Proven ability to operate flatbed and wheel-lift tow trucks.
  • Strong knowledge of vehicle recovery techniques and safety procedures.
  • Excellent customer service and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently and make sound decisions under pressure.
  • Mechanical aptitude for basic vehicle issues.
  • Physical ability to lift heavy objects, stoop, bend, and work in various weather conditions.
  • Proficiency with dispatching software and mobile devices for job management.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification from a recognized towing and recovery association (e.g., WreckMaster, TRAA).
  • Experience with heavy-duty towing and recovery.
  • First Aid and CPR certification.
  • Strong geographical knowledge of Fort Wayne and surrounding areas.
